In February 2026, representatives from the Environmental Impact Review Board (EIRB), the Environmental Impact Screening Committee (EISC), and the Wildlife Management Advisory Council (NWT) (WMAC (NWT)) conducted a joint community tour in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
The purpose of the tour was to strengthen relationships, share updates on regulatory processes, and hear directly from community members about priorities related to environmental assessment, screening, and wildlife management.
The tour included visits to:
- Sachs Harbour – February 15, 2026
- Aklavik – February 18, 2026
- Paulatuk – February 19, 2026
Throughout the visits, representatives met with community leadership, Elders, harvesters, and residents to discuss ongoing and upcoming development activities, cumulative impacts, and community concerns. These discussions are essential to ensuring that decision-making processes reflect local knowledge and community perspectives.
EIRB, EISC and WMAC (NWT) thank the communities of Sachs Harbour, Aklavik, and Paulatuk for their hospitality, thoughtful dialogue, and continued collaboration.
Engagement at the community level remains a cornerstone of responsible environmental governance in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
